Juniors – Cancelled for the 2020 Summer Season
The COVID-19 virus has played havoc throughout the world and has effected all of us. Despite the weather getting warmer, and hopes of some of the mandates being lifting, it is with much regret that we must cancel the Cape May Beach Patrol Junior Program this year for the 2020 Summer season. We are hopeful that the program can and will be reinstated for the 2021 Summer Season.
The CMBP Jr. Lifeguard Program was established by Captain Buzz Mogck in 1992. The program was developed by Lieutenants Harry Back and Geoff Rife and geared toward lifeguarding in South Jersey.
The goals of the program are to promote:
- Water and beach safety
- Working together as a team
- Good health and fitness
- Respect for the ocean and beach
- Development of future lifeguards
- Having fun in a learning environment
- Good Sportsmanship
The program is open to all boys and girls ages 9 to 15. The only requirement for enrollment is to be a confident swimmer. There are two divisions of the program, they are Jr. Guards and Advanced Jr. Guards. Junior guards are placed in three age groups, Group A 14-15, Group B 12-13, and Group C 9-11. Here they learn basic skills in ocean swimming, beach running and paddling. Advanced Junior Guards is for those who are preparing to be lifeguards in the near future. They will learn advanced skills in all areas of ocean lifeguarding. They also help in teaching the younger children.
The fee is $120.00 (includes official CMBP Jr. Lifeguard uniform and USLA Jr Guard Membership). Accepting applications starting Memorial Day weekend. Call Lifeguard Headquarters at 609-884-9520 if you have any additional questions.
2020 Schedule: July 7 through July 30, every Tuesday and Thursday with the exception of USLA Junior Lifeguard Championships and weather permitting
